This is a termite mud gallery which originates in the middle of a subfloor and then extends along the ground before going up a pier and then going over the ant cap, over the bearer and runs between two joists.
This particular entry point was quite large and very obvious. It highlights why regular inspections are important, an inspection carried regularly would have prevented this significant infestation.
